CULTURE
Carved by hand from the granite clifftop above Porthcurno Bay by the remarkable Rowena Cade and her gardener in the 1930s, the Minack Theatre is one of the most extraordinary and singular performance venues anywhere in Britain. The stone terracing descends in tiers to an open stage poised directly above the Atlantic, with the sea serving as both backdrop and occasional scene-stealer - particularly on summer evenings, when the light turns the water from deep blue to gold as the first act draws to a close. HISTORY
Mousehole - pronounced 'Mow-zel' by those who know it well - takes its name from a sea cave near the harbour entrance, and its history stretches back to at least the Bronze Age, when the sheltered waters of Mount's Bay made it a natural and well-used landing place on the ancient tin trade routes between Cornwall and the Mediterranean. The harbour, rebuilt in granite in the 14th century, brought centuries of prosperity to what was already one of the most productive and strategically significant fishing ports on the entire Cornish peninsula.

SEASONAL
There are few more magical sights in the whole of Cornwall than Mousehole harbour on a December evening. The famous Christmas lights - tracing intricate and luminous scenes across the harbour walls, boats, and buildings - have been a cherished local tradition since 1963, when the local RNLI branch first strung simple bulbs above the water. Today they are one of the most visited and most loved seasonal events in the entire West Country, drawing thousands of visitors each year to this tiny village on the edge of the Atlantic.
