Mousehole to Lamorna
Mousehole to Lamorna
One of the great short walks of West Cornwall, the coastal path from Mousehole to Lamorna Cove is the kind of walk that reminds you exactly why this corner of England is so special. Approximately three miles one way along the South West Coast Path, it offers granite cliffs, startlingly turquoise water, and sweeping views across Mount’s Bay for much of the route – and it begins, for guests at Polvellan Heights, practically from the doorstep.
The path starts at the southern end of the village and climbs briefly to the clifftop before following the headland south in long, unhurried strides. The going is generally straightforward, and the rewards come quickly and often. The wildflowers alone are worth timing a visit around: in April, the verges are thick with wild daffodils and primroses; come summer, sea thrift and sea campion take over in drifts of pink and white against the grey granite. At almost every turn, the views across the bay open up in a way that never quite becomes ordinary.
The walk ends at Lamorna Cove – a sheltered, beautiful granite inlet with a small café and pub that makes an ideal spot to rest, eat, and take in the surroundings before making the return journey. Coming back via the inland path through fields offers an entirely different perspective on the same landscape, and is well worth considering for the variety it brings.
For guests staying in luxury apartment accommodation in Mousehole, Cornwall, this is one of those walks that tends to become a daily ritual rather than a one-off excursion. It is, quite simply, exceptional.
Bookings are available at Polvellan Heights year-round, so whether you’re visiting in spring for the wildflowers or in summer for the long golden evenings on the coast path, there’s never a wrong time to walk this extraordinary stretch of the Cornish coastline.
